Mansas African Whisky

Flavour fit for an emperor

Mansas is a bourbon style African whisky, challenging the status-quo and putting Africa on the new world whisky map.

The taste of Africa meets new-world whisky.

We created Mansas because the world of Whisky, was not complete without the taste of Africa.

The story of Mansas Whisky dates back 5,000 years to the ancient African Kingdom of Kush where the grain Sorghum flourished, as a core ingredient in the production of beer. Sorghum’s significance transcended tribes to become one of the most important cereals in Africa and is a core ingredient in our Whisky today.

At the heart of Mansas Whisky is yellow maize, Africa’s largest crop and the hero of our mash bill. Not only does yellow maize contribute to the rich bourbon-esq flavours it brings with it a rich African tradition. Literally. Yellow maize was one of the many grains traded by a man who is believed to be the richest man that ever lived, Mansa Musa.

Small batch,

Big flavour

We work closely with small farmers across Africa to source yellow maize, sorghum, rye and barley, because we believe in working with people who know the lay of the land intimately and can select the cream of the crop needed to produce excellent whisky.
